This is the process of grinding up asphalt so that it can then be recycled. Asphalt milling prepares municipality roads and streets for resurfacing by removing some of the existing asphalt. The milling process is the controlled removal of asphalt pavement to a predetermined depth, slope and/or specified thickness. The ground down pavement particles are hauled off to the asphalt plant to be used as recycled raw materials in the manufacturing of new asphalt. Pavement milling (cold planing, asphalt milling, or profiling) is the process of removing at least part of the surface of a paved area. Milling removes anywhere from just enough thickness to level and smooth the surface to a full depth removal.
